We do need to be reminded the journey can have bumps, and turns we do not UNDERSTAND...But with God, their journeys, and life purposes were fulfilled ...in His time!Off to read book 3! I can hardly wait to read what happens next!

S. G. Whitson is one of the best historical writers. I have read this more than once. Great attention to historical detail.
Simon was a missionary that worked hard to help the Dakota Indians. The author done a superb story of the life the Indians went through when they were displaced being told to stay on a reservation. This is a story of survival in a time of turmoil and the love that can arise above hate. A very good series.
Very descriptive prose with characters that are complex and well developed. The story line follows the first book but can also stand alone. So much historical information about a dismal period in our history which is well researched and told in such an intriguing manner as to be a page-turner. Interesting inspirational quotes from the NKJV of the Bible. Can be used for book clubs. Sample questions are provided. Follow her on Pinterest.
I was so excited to read this book because I was sad when book #1 ended and I didn't know what was going to happen to my characters. I enjoyed the story line about going west to preach Christianity to the Indians. The mistrust between whites and Indians, the fighting, the escaping both whites and Indians together, all of this brought an exciting story line for the reader. I was so sad when Daniel two stars is reported hanged as an example, and even thought it wasn't true, the love of heart prepares to marry another man to help raise his children. Anyway. It is an excellent series.
Winston spins a tale in this 2nd book that brings heartache, happiness, and real historic problems that evolved in Minnesota even while the Civil War raged elsewhere. I did read book 1 first, and I recommend others do. Since it is based on sweeping historic events, reading chronologically makes sense.
If chronology isn't important to you, this could be a fascinating story, just alone.

Invested in the characters introduced in book 1, I didn’t want to put this book down. This book really made me think and feel so many sad, hopeful, and bittersweet emotions. The author didn’t disappoint despite my hopes for certain things to happen differently. As a result the true love shown by multiple characters, choosing to do the right thing, was beautiful. I think this series will not be easily forgotten.
This book was really good - juat like Book 1. I try to read all of Stephanie's books. She is a wonderful author. Gin finally got back to Daniel. I knew she would. I wonder now if there will be a Book 3. I sure hope so. I recommend this series to all historical, clean readers. I'm sure you would enjoy it as much as I did.
